Les Miserables

Les Misérables, one of the most iconic shows of all time, will be appearing for a limited period at Chicago, Illinois, and performing in Cadillac Palace on Monday 23rd December 2024! Witness the story that has inspired fans through the original novel, several motion picture showings, and countless stage adaptations in so many different countries including Japan and Belgium!

Since its global premiere in September, 1980, the previously unknown show continues to astonish audiences and prevails to be one of the most amazing shows in contemporary theater, because of the musical's tragic and passionate story of its characters as well as the emotional sung-through acts that accompanies the narrative.

Whether it’s your first time seeing this grand play or a repeat experience, each attendee will certainly depart Cadillac Palace with a heavy but full heart and great admiration for the musical. Be sure to choose and secure your seats as soon as possible, because one of the top musicals from Broadway and West End will only be showing for a limited season in Chicago!

More than 40 years ago, a grand idea was conceived when Claude-Michel Schönberg, Alain Boubil, and Jean-Marc Natel prepared the initial musical screenplay for the stage adaptation, Les Misérables (originally in French). Created from Victor Hugo’s late book of the same name, the plot of Les Mis was adapted and turned into a live stage adaptation as a fully lyricized play, which was a unique approach to stagecraft in that time period.

After a limited season performed in French in Paris, there was already a growing demand to create an English show, and once Cameron Macikintosh discovered the soundtrack, he was so inspired and decided to create an English version in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Herbert Kretzmer, who invented the English song numbers. The English staging of the musical at first premiered with a two-month period at the Barbican Centre, but as a result of its astounding success and larger audience with the English version, the musical quickly relocated to West End’s Palace Theatre in due time, London theatre's top theater, and ran for close to two decades. Les Mis then moved once more to another location, the Queen’s Theatre (which was eventually renovated and renamed to The Sondheim Theatre in 2019), and continues to run up until today. Adding together all its tours since its inception in 1980, Les Mis is statistically the longest-running musical of all time.

With almost 4 decades in West End alone and not even listing its shows in other cities, especially its well-received Broadway seasons, it is incontrovertible that Les Misérables continues to be incredible in the eyes of the play's attendees. The narrative and the epic musical score, which revolves around redemption, sacrifice, and unrequited love, tugs on a viewer's heartstrings due to the evident emotion behind the mask of each character and act staged. The musical has become so critically-acclaimed that the play has been adapted to films several times and has been met with glowing reviews even on a separate medium.

This upcoming December’s production of Les Misérables brings it to Illinois, where the show will be running on Monday 23rd December 2024, in Cadillac Palace, Chicago. For a sung-through musical like Les Misérables, fans can agree that Cadillac Palace is the leading option due to its audio design and acoustics, as well as a magnificent stage to hold the show.
