The Lion King at Cadillac Palace Theatre

The musical Lion King shares the life of the young lion cub Simba, who before long must suddenly come to terms with his fate of becoming the leader of the Pride Lands due to unjust killing of his father, Mufasa. Mufasa, who is a beloved King by all of his lands, suffers betrayal from from Scar, Simba’s uncle, which leaves Simba without a father. This forces Simba into into hiding for a long period of time, and where the Prince's long journey and his subsequent return to The Pride Lands and his seat on the throne.

Based off the previous 1994 movie of the same title produced by Disney, The play, The Lion King was skillfully transformed to the theater platform by director Julie Taymor and the second to none cast and crew. Its launch in 1997 was the first of its kind, being lauded by fans at the time. Greg Evans of Variety summarizes the musical with the most accuracy in his review, stating that “Julie Taymor's staging of this classic musical is a phenomenon, a theatrical achievement unquestionable in its beauty, brains and ingenuity. Exceeding expectations as a film follow-up, the live version greatly upgrades each and every component of the classic 90s animated movie, from design elements and narrative to Lebo M's compositions and the newly African-based original songs of Elton John and Tim Rice."

The stage adaptation was also received with the top posts from audiences. A specific review specifically writes about how The Lion King can aptly be called “The best Broadway has to offer”, sharing how he experienced that “the show was fantastic. It was visually stunning and the music would give you goosebumps. The African savanna setting really brought the animals to life.” Most viewers who have attended the musical over the previous 20 years can attest that despite being the same plot of a movie, the iconic musical went above and beyond the original.

The approaching October’s run of The Lion King will be hosted in Cadillac Palace at Illinois on Sunday 12th October 2025. Cadillac Palace, being equally inspiring and jaw-dropping as the Broadway play with the venue's naturally devised stage setup and seating arrangement is deemed by fans as the ideal choice to stage The Lion King.
