Synopsis

Set in 1922 New York, the story follows Midwesterner Nick Carraway moving into a humble cottage next to the extravagant millionaire Jay Gatsby. Amazed by Gatsby's extravagant lifestyle and mysterious persona, Nick discovers Gatsby's obsessive pursuit to reunite with his former sweetheart, Daisy Buchanan, now married to the wealthy but unfaithful Tom. The story dives into unrealistic aspirations amid social excess. Through uplifting songs like "Roaring On," the musical crafts a story of desire, deception and inevitable downfall.

Creative Team

This outstanding production is put together by a talented team led by Ryan McCartan as the charming Jay Gatsby, Aisha Jackson as the ethereal Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as narrator Nick Carraway, Samantha Pauly as the clever Jordan Baker, Linedy Genao as the fiery Myrtle Wilson, Austin Colby as the domineering Tom Buchanan, Charlie Pollock as the beaten-down George Wilson, and Eric Anderson as the shrewd Meyer Wolfsheim. Directed by Marc Bruni, with energetic movement by Dominique Kelley and an original score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 classic, "The Great Gatsby - The Musical" premiered at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 before making its Broadway premiere in April 2024 at the Broadway Theatre. It won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, honoring its lavish 1920s styles.
