Amidst a tumultuous time and widespread rebellion in the historic 19th century French Revolution, a sentenced lawbreaker by the name of Jean Valjean severs his parole after nineteen years incarcerated. Because of a fortunate, albeit lucky, series of events, Valjean is able to make his next move and creates a new identity as Monsieur Madeleine, in due time rising to become a factory owner and a mayor. Though previously successful in evading the law and his antagonist Javert, Jean Valjean is regrettably involved in the ongoing bloody rebellion of Paris, wherein Jean Valjean is forced to make choices that would affect both himself and his adopted daughter, Cosette.

This story of Les Misérables, full of justice and redemption, has been produced successfully for approximately four decades in several venues all over the world. Ever since its debut on the live stage in the 1980s, it has secured its place not only as part of the most astounding plays of the past 4 decades, but also one of the most-awarded musicals too. In 1987 by itself, it topped the nominations and awards of the acclaimed Tony Awards, with 12 nominations and 8 wins. Les Mis obtained awards as Best Direction of a Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, and Best Featured Actor and Actress in a Musical.
