Les Miserables at Cadillac Palace Theatre

Happening specifically throughout the time span concurrent with the Rebellion of 1832 in Paris, France, the musical is the life story of Jean Valjean, a local of France who was convicted for almost two decades because of stealing a loaf of bread for his nephew. After his time on the chain gang, he escapes and searches for redemption as an honest man; he then uses a brand new persona as Monsieur Madeleine, while still hiding from the law and Javert, an officer who has known Valjean since his time in the chain gang and determined to catch and bring Valjean back to prison.

Happening over a period of approximately twenty years covered by the musical's two acts, Valjean happens to be entangled in one way or another with a few key people in every part of the show – Fantine is one of Monsieur Madeleine’s factory workers who gives birth to an illegitimate baby; Cosette is the adoptive baby of Madeleine, who by no surprise Fantine’s infant; Marius, a young local on the side of the insurgency and the destined love match of Cosette. Other roles featured in the play include the Thénardiers, abusive innkeepers who also lead a street gang and are obsessed with taking advantage of the chaos; Eponine, their child, who hides her true feelings for Marius; and members of the insurgency specifically Gavroche, a small but cunning child, and the revolt’s fearless leader, Enjolras.

This diverse group of characters who are part of one struggle and their personal tales are presented beautifully on a live platform, not just with its 19th century French-based costume and stage design, but principally with Les Mis being sung-through fully from start to finish. With famous numbers including “I Dreamed a Dream” and “One Day More” as highlights of its amazing score, Les Mis is able to communicate the emotion, passion, and tragedy hiding behind each character that comes to life in the theater.

The musical's next tour will be in the exemplary Cadillac Palace in Chicago, running for a limited period on Saturday 16th May 2026.
