The Story

Set in 1922 Long Island, the tale follows Midwesterner Nick Carraway as he rents a modest cottage next to the extravagant millionaire Jay Gatsby. Amazed by Gatsby's lavish lifestyle and mysterious persona, Nick uncovers Gatsby's obsessive pursuit to reunite with his former sweetheart, Daisy Buchanan. As secrets unravel, including infidelities, deceptions and tragic confrontations - the story takes a turn into unrealistic dreams amid societal excess. Via uplifting songs like "Roaring On," the musical crafts a story of desire, deception and inevitable downfall.

The Production

This outstanding show is put together by a gifted team led by Ryan McCartan as the charismatic Jay Gatsby, Aisha Jackson as the ethereal Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as narrator Nick Carraway, Samantha Pauly as the witty Jordan Baker, Linedy Genao as the passionate Myrtle Wilson, Austin Colby as the overbearing Tom Buchanan, Charlie Pollock as the beaten-down George Wilson, and Eric Anderson as the cunning Meyer Wolfsheim. Directed by Marc Bruni, with dynamic movement by Dominique Kelley and an original score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 masterpiece, "The Great Gatsby - The Musical" premiered at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 before making its Broadway debut in April 2024 at the Broadway Theatre. It won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, honoring its opulent 1920s aesthetics.
