The Lion King at Cadillac Palace Theatre

The Lion King recounts the lighthearted yet tragic struggles of a young lion cub called Simba, who is the only successor to rule as the King of the Pride Lands after his father. The African territory however is filled with secrecy and internal strife, as even in this often lighthearted narrative, misfortune appears when the young prince's father and King is murdered due to the intent of his estranged uncle Scar, who harbors a secret hatred for the King of the Pride Lands. The fledgling cub is forced to flee from his home and goes into hiding for much of his early childhood. While away in the forest, he encounters new friends, Timon and Pumbaa, who bring joy to Simba's lonely life and include him in their group. His relaxed demeanor then suddenly changes when Simba once more chances upon his long-time confidant Nala, who reveals the tyranny of Scar to him and requests him to retake his rightful place as king.

This incredibly powerful story of heartbreak, true friendship, and eventual redemption is amplified by the familiar classic songs, written by Elton John and Tim Rice. Their original songs, supplemented with more songs and lyrics from big names like Zimmer, Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and director Julie Taymor have improved and elevated the quality of the musical not only in Broadway, but also in international productions.

The Lion King premiered on July 8, 1997, at the Orpheum theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The show took the theater world by storm and was praised for its unique execution, leading to its move and premiere in Broadway, New York on October 15, 1997.
