“Some Like It Hot is a well-aimed throwback: a jubilant, oldfangled, crowd-pleasing musical comedy” – Time Out
SOME LIKE IT HOT is based on the cult classic movie of the same name. The Broadway production hit movie theaters in 1959, and it has since gone down in history as one of the most beloved comedy movies of all time! The classic Hollywood comedy stands tall as one of Marilyn Monroe’s most famous credits as an actress, as well as Billy Wilder’s as a celebrated director.
Set in 1930s Chicago just before the end of Prohibition, the story follows two musicians who work at a mob-controlled speakeasy. The musicians Joe and Jerry witness the mob boss Spats kill an informant. As Spats resolves to kill them for being witnesses, Joe and Jerry are forced to flee the city. To escape the mob, the musicians disguise themselves as women and join an all-female traveling swing band. But as Joe falls for the band’s lead singer, Sugar, his cover as Josephine gets in the way. Meanwhile, Jerry finds his disguise as Daphne as an outlet to discover and live out his truest, fullest self. The production is a modern reinvention of the classic Hollywood comedy and a tale about self-discovery.
